Don't laugh

But I think this is quite possibly the ugliest quilt I have ever seen....

When I set out to make a quilt. I was nervous that I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't want to waste time and energy on something without knowing what the heck I was doing. But, all the books and magazines made quilting look so easy. Furthermore, I have never seen an ugly quilt. That is until I was working on this one.

Yeah, I totally fell out of love almost as soon as I started working on it. First of all the colors are not really my favorite. Then, the fabric kept on slipping (even though I basted it and pinned it everywhere)... puckering here and there as I sewed crookedly along. I knew it was going to be a disaster as I was working on it. But I had already put so much time, energy, and money into - I refused to quit.

I am not getting rid of it, though. Oh, no. This little girl is going to rock this thing.

I think it looks great, but the perfectionist in me knows how you feel. At least you finished it! I just today signed up to take an introduction to quilting class on July 20th at Whipstitch in Atlanta. You should check it out.

My grandmother made quilts by hand. I still have the last one she made and I cherish it. I remember watching her set up this huge contraption in her livingroom as she pieced all these little quilt pieces together. It's an art just like any other, and it will take time and practice for you to get it your groove. Keep at it! I think your first work looks great!

I think all quilts are ugly so you shouldn't feel bad about this one. But if I put my blood sweat and tears into making one, you better believe somebody will be sleeping under it. Congrats on doing though. You should be proud you finished.

I'm definitely not laughing! Congrats on your quilting experience. I have not ventured into making my own, although I have recently made a small quilted top pillow case (will blog soon enough). Quilting is a whole new craft life that I'm not ready for. lol

Enjoy your quilt!
