Day of the Dead Skull (UPDATED) + Pattern


Although I don't celebrate El Dia De Los Muertos, I LOVE to craft for it.  Something about trying to make something both spooky and pretty presents a challenge I can't resist.  So when I saw this on Etsy.  I had to try it.





I made one yesterday - that didn't turn out as well as I wanted - so I remade another one today.  I think this one is much better?  Here is the pattern:




What you will need:



Ivory yarn (a few yards)
Pink, purple, turquoise, and green yarn (about 6 inches each)
Black silvery yarn (about a yard)
Size G/6 4.25mm crochet hook
Needle and black thread
Flower for adornment

Head:
With ivory, Chain 2
 

Round 1: in 2nd chain from hook, sc 6 (6 sts). Place marker in last sc and move marker as you complete each round.

Round 2: 2 sc in each sc (12 sts)
Round 3 make mouth :  2 sc, sc in next 2 sc
 change to pink
 sc in same sc 
change to purple
sc in next sc
change to turquoise:
sc in next sc
change to yellow
sc in same sc
change to green
sc in next sc
change to purple
sc in next sc
change to pink
sc in same sc
change to ivory
(sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, sc in next sc (18)

Round 4: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) around (24 sts)
Round 5: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around (30 sts)
Round 6 shape chin: (2 sc, sc in next 4 sc) twice, sc2tog 5 times, (sc in next 4 sc, 2sc) twice (29 sts)
Round 7 continue to shape chin : sc in next 13 sc, sc3tog, sc in next 13 sc (27 sts)
Round 8 - 10: sc around (27 sts)
Round 11: (sc2tog, sc) around (18 sts)
Round 12-13: sc around (18 sts)
STUFF

Remaining Rounds: sc2tog until the head closes

Eyes make 2:
With Black Silvery yarn, Chain 2
Round 1: sc 6 in second chain from hook.  sl in first sc to close round.

Weave in strings.  Sew Eyes onto head.
 
Attach a flower.

Note: Any flower will do - but if you want the pattern for the flower I used, let me know, and I can make a pattern for that one.
